Mackenzie Wild Declaration

A friend of mine got me on to this one. Add your name to oppose the Mackenzie Gas Project and help protect wildlife and habitat.

Canada needs to focus on clean alternate sources of energy such as wind, solar and tidal power. Global warming is real and we must act now to meet our Kyoto targets. And please don't tell me that nuclear energy is a good, clean alternative...how the hell is toxic waste "clean"? While you're at it, send a letter to the Premier of Ontario about this one.

Dear Ms. Jones--

Wind, solar and tidal power will never contribute significantly to humanity's energy demands.

Once "free" chemical energy (oil and coal) are exhausted, we will either be forced to use nuclear energy, which is almost free, or suffer an incomprensible die-back.

As for the handling of nuclear waste (currently the major obstacle to exploiting nuclear energy), look into the progress being made with waste vitrification and the concept of BWIP (basalt waste isolation). These technologies could render nuclear energy feasible for thousands of years.

Dear Mikey:

I disagree with you completely when you say that "Wind, solar and tidal power will never contribute significantly to humanity's energy demands." I also forgot to mention geothermal energy sources, among others. There is huge potential with clean alternative sources of energy to supply all the world's demands. When humanity puts its mind to something, we can accomplish amazing things. Alot of this technology already exists and is there for the taking. It brought me tears of joy to see all the wind mills in Europe.

Therefore, I also disagree with you that the only alernatives to fossil fuels are nuclear energy or death.

If nuclear waste could somehow be made "clean", then I could support that kind of technological advancement. I will look into nuclear waste vitrification and basalt waste isolation. Thanks for the heads up.
